Frequently asked questions
Is a chemical spill always an OSHA-recordable incident?
Only if it results in injury, illness, or exposure meeting OSHA's recordability criteria. A contained spill with no exposure may still require environmental or internal compliance documentation even if it isn't OSHA-recordable.
What should go in the description for a spill report?
The substance and approximate quantity, how the spill happened, the containment and cleanup response, and whether anyone was exposed — in addition to the usual date, time, and location fields.
